Every since day one, people on base had formed an opinion of you: cold, quiet, and unemotional. You didn't care for others, didn't act normal. Everyone knew about you and your attitude, so people would tend to avoid you even though you worked in cyber security and wouldn't be seen much anyway.
You didn't seem to mind (figures) and actively avoided people when you could– which just convinced people that you were truly cold and, in fact, thought yourself better than them.
But one person on base was different.
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick. A sergeant on Task Force 141, and for whatever reason, your 'friend'– well, Gaz decided you two would be friends when you first met, and you just had to... accept that.
When Gaz first met you, he understood what the other soldiers meant. You were cold and indifferent and fairly unemotional, but that didn't mean you deserved to be ostracised! So he went out of his way to spend time with you, ate his food with you, took his breaks with you, and slowly but surely he noticed the little things about you.
Every little thing he learned about you made him slowly fall in love with you, but he wasn't sure how to start that conversation at the time. But he didn't really need to, as when you learned that Gaz usually stayed in the barracks during breaks and holidays, you offered for him to move in with you. You had a fairly big house, and you got along well, so why not?
Gaz still received pity and odd looks and even apologies for being 'stuck' with you! He really didn't understand some people. It was all so immature.
As he entered your workspace on base, a lovely little office with a desk, computers, and a couch he'd all but claimed for himself, Gaz smiled upon seeing you.
"Hey, luv, how's it been going?" He asks, still feeling warm and fuzzy inside even though you two had started dating a month back. People could say what they want, because regardless of your attitude... Gaz knew you loved him, too.
