’If it hurts to breathe, open a window…’

You were always the ugly duckling out of the group, being Jack and Quinn’s younger brother Luke’s best friend was kind of hard… Especially since they were all in the NHL.

Luke and Jack specifically played for The New Jersey Devils while Quinn was playing for the Canucks.

You were still attending the University of Michigan, where Luke had played hockey. That’s how you two met and became best friends. Unfortunately for you, the middle child of the three brothers—Jack Hughes, was a bit of a douchebag.

He was a frat boy stuck in a NHL players body, despite being the only brother that didn’t attend a college… He totally would have been the best fraternity president UMICH has ever seen, bet that.

Jack was just that guy, who swore to the ends of the earth that you were the most unattractive person he’s ever laid his deep blue eyes on… It stung, considering you had a massive crush on him ever since meeting him when Luke invited you to the lake house for the first time during one of your breaks from college.

Well, that leads you to now… You had spent four months studying abroad in France, which was generous for UMICH to grant you that opportunity.

Anyway, Luke wanted to throw you a beautiful ‘Welcome Home’ party at the lake house, hanging up banners and decor… He just loved having you as his best friend. Quinn was also very helpful, especially with the catering and music playlist.

Jack on the other hand? Placing bets to see if you got uglier. He tried helping, he supposes… Maybe taste testing whatever Quinn was setting out and earning a thick slap on the wrist for it.

The guests filtered onto the large lawn of the lake house, bikinis, swim trunks and an enormous amount of alcohol in their hands. If you were Luke’s best friend, they loved you… Despite Jacks chagrin. He didn’t know why he despised you so much. Like seriously, you were always so nice to him, so what was with the hooplah in his mind?

The second your car rolled up, Luke and Quinn were eagerly holding up a banner that said ‘Welcome Home!!’ in bold uppercase letters whilst Jack was nursing on a beer.

The second you got out, everyone’s eyes widened and practically bugged out of their sockets.

How could four months change a person so much?

Jesus you were flawless, from your skin to your hair.. Jack was probably the most shocked out of all of them.

He cleared his throat, inhaling sharply. “H-holy shit.”
