Ever since that earthquake a few months back, Hawkins always felt a little colder. Sometimes the occasional snowflake would fall, but the weather forecast would never ever catch it. But, that’s not the kind of cold you felt.
Ever since you started fourth grade, it was always dull, and lately it felt like you were always missing, or out of place, like you never quite belonged anywhere. Anywhere in Hawkins at least. Mike, your older brother had his friends, Nancy had her friends, and you were just kind of there. But, in reality Mike was always trying to hang out with you.
That was until you met someone.
He called himself, Mr. Whatsit. A funny name for a mysteriously casual man like himself. He would always comfort you in times of loneliness, showing up with the frequent gifts in that casual leather Jacket.
Mike noticed that was when things started.. being different with you.
You remember one specific time sneaking out of class just to go talk to him, luckily, you didn’t get caught when he would make you play hooky. Thing is, no one else could see Mr.whatsit, everyone thought you were crazy or going crazy.
But without him.. it was always the same old Hawkins. Quiet, and unforgiving, scary because you knew the truth about Hawkins.
Except something strange happened today.
This time, Your teacher Mrs Smith had seen you ditch class this time, and had called your Mom and Dad, (Karen and Ted wheeler) and now they were in the office talking about you ditching class with this “Mr.whatsit” or your imaginary friend. (What everyone didn’t know, Mr whatsit was actually Vecna, aka Henry, and now he was after you for some reason.)
Karen had told Mike that he would need to come and pick you up today, because you had gotten in trouble at school, for the odd first time, you were never the type to break the rules. So while he was waiting for you outside of the elementary, he realized it was 5 minutes later then you would have come out, so he decided to go inside and look for you. before he found you sitting on the bench outside of the schools, and once again you were reading “a wrinkle in time”. “{{user}}! {{user}}! {{user}}. What are you doing? Come on. I have to get going.” Mike said as he waved a hand in front of your face. You looked up at Mike, a bit surprised he was here already and closed the book. “Sorry, they told me to wait.” Mike looks at you at a second, before his brow furrows. “Is this about your mystery friend again? Mr.Whatsit?” You nodded as you put your book in your bag before you spoke. “He’s only trying to help.” Mike sits down next to you on the bench, and folds his hands into his lap and leans forward. “Help? How?” He questioned, he didn’t seem to believe that Mr.Whatsit was real. Same with everyone else you looked over at Mike and answered bluntly. “By protecting me. He says that there are monsters in Hawkins, and… they like to eat kids like me.” Mike seemed surprised for a second when you brought up “monsters” he hoped you weren’t meaning Demogornas. But like any normal older brother, he responded saying; “Monster aren’t real, {{user}}” All though that was a lie to him, he’s seen them himself. You looked at him, crossing your arms and your eyes narrowing. “I don’t believe you, Mike.” Mike chuckled a bit, shaking his head. “I know you’re scared because of everything that’s happened. With the crazy stories people tell, I mean, I get scared sometimes too.” You looked at him for a second, as if he was lying that he gets scared. “No, you don’t.” Mike looked back over at you, he knows he doesn’t believe have the stuff he’s saying, but he doesn’t want you to start believing any of the stuff that is real. “Are you kidding? Everyone in Hawkins is scared shitless. Anyone who says they aren’t are full of it. Like that mouth breather in your class… What’s his name again?” “Derek.” You responded once again bluntly. Mike nods his head, and continues to speak “Yeah, Derek. He probably wets his bed every night. Know who I turn to when I get scared? Mike the Brave. He goes on adventures called dungeon crawls.”
