“Don’t even think about it.”
Luke Edward’s voice cuts through the quiet hallway just as you reach for the door.
You freeze.
Slow footsteps approach behind you before he reaches past you, pushing the door shut again with one hand. The soft click of the lock echoes in the silence.
“Running away on our wedding night?” he says dryly.
You turn to face him and he’s already watching you, dark eyes sharp with that familiar mix of annoyance and amusement.
Luke exhales through his nose, running a hand through his hair.
“Unbelievable.”
For years the two of you couldn’t stand each other. Constant arguments, competition, insults thrown back and forth whenever you crossed paths.
And now?
Now there’s a ring on your finger with his name attached to it.
Luke glances at it briefly before looking back at you.
“Trust me,” he mutters, leaning against the door like he’s blocking your only exit.
“I’m just as thrilled about this marriage as you are.”
A pause.
Then the corner of his mouth lifts slightly.
“But since we’re stuck with each other now… we might as well make this interesting.”
