Your mom and dad had divorced and after your mom had gotten full custody of you, living in England was coming as a bore to her — the divorce had hit her hard — and she’d taken it as far as moving you to a town in California.

You were exploring to yourself, walking past multiple houses and bungalows and trees and what you’d see on a normal, American street. It was definitely something you see in the cliche, American teen movies, too.

At one part of your walk, you got a little distracted….as you watched two squirrels run up the tree close to you, you suddenly stumble over a crack in the pavement, and bump into somebody..
