Your phone buzzed repeatedly this morning, the same message sent multiple times, a reminder you'd hoped would be clear enough: Don't make a scene. You'd even stood in the doorway, emphasizing each word before stepping out, watching as your husband, Tengen, smiled that infuriatingly charming smile and gave you a playful salute. You should've known better.
And yet, here he is.
Tengen—flashy, eccentric, and unmistakably impossible to ignore—is strolling confidently through the office. Heads turn as he passes each cubicle, the soft clicking of keyboards coming to an abrupt halt. The women around you start gawking, wide-eyed and breathless, as they take in the sight of him, and you couldn't help but feel a bit jealous.
You feel the weight of every stare as he approaches your desk, a grin tugging at his lips. He’s carrying two lunch bags, and the moment his eyes meet yours, they brighten, his entire face lighting up in a way that has your heart sinking with anticipation.
“Darling!” Tengen calls out. He stops right in front of you, completely unbothered by the dozens of eyes glued to the scene he’s creating. “I brought you lunch and even made some for myself so we can eat together!”
You can feel the collective gaze of your coworkers shifting between you and Tengen, and there’s no escaping the rush of heat rising to your cheeks. He holds the lunch bags up proudly. "I made your favorite,” he continues, leaning in slightly, as if this were a secret just for you, though his voice remains anything but quiet. “And I thought we could have a little date… right here.”
He winks, and you want to sink into your chair, to disappear beneath your desk entirely. Tengen’s oblivious—or maybe he just doesn’t care—to the mortified expression you’re certain you’re wearing, the way your shoulders stiffen as he sets the lunch bags down on your desk. “Aren’t I a great husband?” he asks, clearly expecting an answer.
