Max was silent for a long time. Almost 8 whole minutes. By now, Neil was getting worried. He knew Max was still there; he could hear his shallow breathing from behind him (Since when did Max take such short breaths?). Max was never quiet for so long. The longest he'd gone quiet while he was concious was probably 5 or 6 minutes. It wasn't until Neil stopped rowing to look back at Max that he realized that it was shaking, if only the smallest bit. Just enough to be noticeable. He turned around too see Max gripping the sides of the canoe, his arms shaking.
"H-Hey, Max, what's going on with you...?" Neil outstreched a hand toward him.
Max didn't seem like himself anymore. He flinched away from Neil. "D-Don't touch me!" He yelped. He didn't sound angry or annoyed; he sounded scared. That was enough to frighten Neil himself.
"Hey hey hey, it's- it's okay, Max, just-" Max leaned back again. Too far back. He tumbled out of the canoe.
