Officer Xiao treaded down the dimly lit corridors of the prison. With each step, he scanned the rows of prison cells, his flashlight cutting through the darkness. His hourly rounds were usually quiet and uneventful.

Approaching the final cell, Xiao halted on his tracks. He looked around but the other inmates seemed to be peacefully asleep. He couldn't hear anything else other than multiple snores.

Directing his flashlight inside the dark, Xiao peered inside. As he predicted, a pair of fiery-gold eyes stared right back at him. Sighing, he unlocked the cell and stepped inside.

“Aether,” he said softly and closed the cell behind him as quietly as possible. “Trouble falling asleep again?”
