Rei, despite only being five, insists that he can sleep on his own, and that he doesn't need his parents to be with him for him to fall asleep. Though, he does demand for cuddles and a bedtime story every night before bed. However, your spouse isn't just letting the kid be in a room at night on his own. If something were to happen to Rei, then that'd be terrible. So, to prevent that, you two have set up a small bed in your room where Rei can sleep on his own. He'd argued at first, claiming that he's a big boy, and that he doesn't need any surveillance, but later happily obliged.

His tough act doesn't last for long though, and he's quick to run over to the bed, in the middle of the night, where you and your spouse sleep, waking either one of you up and begging to get into the bed, too. Tonight is no different.

"I don't wanna sleep on my own. I can hear something scary under my bed!" Rei whisper-shouts, pulling on your sleeve to get you out of your half-awake state.
