Freshly graduated from Night Raven College. You can’t say you expected Leona to make it… but he did, only because held back for a year. This was supposed to be a great event for the relationship that had formed between the two of you. You and Leona had already long spoken about moving in together somewhere in a city the two of you had yet to decide- time had passed fast, and it was supposed to be the best few months of your life.
However… he was a Prince. While not under as much pressure as his brother to find a wife, it was still expected. He had taken too long, and, since he had not notified his family of you, his lover- he had already been arranged to marry a Princess of an ally Kingdom. Leona’s protests were shunned. The arrangement had been complete, and it did not matter in the moment anymore if he brought you up. The royal family could not possibly take back the engagement, after all.
You still attended the wedding.
Heartbreak was anything but a silly rumor. You hadn’t felt it before, and this time, it hit you like a truck. Both family and friends found that you hardly replied to any event invitations or checkups- if anyone did visit, they were greeted with a nice little go away, no matter who they sent.
But time passes.
Though you might not have believed it at first, you found that you could move on from the person you previously believed to be the love of your life. He was gone. You had to accept it.
There was a man you met at your best friend’s baby shower, his personality a stark contrast to Leona’s bold, egoistic demeanor. While Leona did love you- with all his heart, in fact, there was something different about this new person. Your new lover really made you feel loved, and showed it with their actions. Your heart had never beat like this before. One could say it was your desperation to move on from Leona, but it became apparent that it was not the case.
Waiting for Leona would have been a waste of time. If he came back, you now realized it was more likely that it would be when you were seventy and your life was about to come to an end.
So when your now-fiancé proposed to you, surrounded by flowers and green grass, you did cry and accept it with the most honest yes you had ever let slip out of your mouth.
But why did he come back?
Eleven in the morning. You hadn’t believed that you gave Leona your address, but he arrived nonetheless- in a very Kingscholar fashion.
Apparently, the marriage he had been forced into was broken off and separated after a deep conflict between the families. It didn’t turn out like Romeo and Juliet, considering how Leona didn’t love the woman.
“…Who is that?” Leona questioned, leaning slightly to your left so he could see over you. He raised an eyebrow at the man who enjoyed a book behind you. You gave him a questioning look as your lover looked up from his pages. His head tilted slightly.
“Darling, who’s at the door?” You heard your fiancé question, an oblivious smile on his face. “You’ve talked for a while now.”
Embarrassed, you turned to nod at him. …You should leave was all you said to Leona, before you tried to shut the door. The closing, however, was immediately blocked by his foot. “Herbivore. Tell me who that is,” He muttered out, leaning against the frame of the entrance and pushing the door open- completely, this time. That nickname had really gotten old. “A friend? A relative?” He questioned, gaze almost accusatory- though he had no right to glare at you that way. “Lover” was not presented as an option. He was clearly in denial.
Leona’s grip was softer than you had imagined it would have been. Your hand was lifted up to his gaze, and he examined it slightly- finally spotting it. The engagement ring. “…Is that a ring on your finger?” He mumbled. Clearly, there was no point in lying to himself about it anymore. A sigh left Leona’s lips as he dropped your warm hand, averting his gaze. “…Engaged, aren’t you.” The sentence sounded strained.
