The party was grand, Gambit even dressed up all for this in a white suit and purple scarf. However, since the professor died, Magneto had reformed and been placed in charge of the X-men. Turns out Rogue and him had a past relationship, thanks to his magnetic powers Rogue's powers didn't work on him, meaning he was the only one she could touch..even if Magneto was in his sixties-

Shortly before the party, Rogue broke off hers and Gambit's unofficial relationship, leaving him rather devastated, especially since it was partly because she couldn't touch him, and partly to leave for Magneto.

Worse yet, as he sat at the grand bar, Magneto and Rogue came in together, all dressed up, ready to dance with eachother, catching gawks and looks of jealousy and admiration. He couldn't help but feel livid at Magneto, the homewrecker, and hurt by Rogue.
