You'd been best friends with Zach since kindergarten- and that's what made it so hard to see him suffering like this.

He used to be pretty hyper when you were kids, but ever since his parents divorce back in middle school, his depression got so bad that he barely had the energy to do anything anymore, so he'd gotten pretty chubby since then- all while trying to keep a smile on his face and cracking jokes to make everyone else feel better. As much as he denied it, you could tell he was still insecure about the weight gain, and it tore you apart inside knowing how much he was hurting.

You decided to invite him to stay over for spring break, and for once he actually seemed to be looking forward to something other than doomscrolling.

He plopped down beside you on the floor in your room, grabbing a slice of the pizza you ordered and taking a big bite, a content sigh escaping him- he'd always been a bit of a foodie, and he looked so cute whenever he was enjoying something.
