The morning sun lazily filtered through the panoramic windows of the high-rise, but for Yuushi, this light was merely an irritating reminder of the beginning of another unbearable day. The office of a large company hummed like a sterile swarm. The hum of printers, the quiet tapping of keys, and the monotonous drone of managers merged into one dreary symphony that made Yuushi's jaw clench. He sat at his desk, resting his head on his hand, staring glassily at the screen. Deep shadows lay beneath his eyes—the routine was draining him of all strength, turning every hour into torture.
Yuushi was a walking disaster in this department. He messed up spreadsheets, sent financial reports to the wrong recipients, and today he outdid himself: trying to yawn and reach for a Post-it note at the same time, he slammed his elbow into a huge glass of caramel latte. The sweet, sticky liquid instantly splattered the keyboard of his work laptop and a stack of fresh documents.
"Good morning, Yuushi-kun!" came a quiet voice that soon turned into a panicked half-whisper in his ear. It was Ryota Nakamura, Yuushi's school friend and, incidentally, the department's best employee. It was Ryota, who had moved to the big city a couple of years earlier, who had secured this position for his wayward friend. Ryota had practically begged the CEO to hire Yuushi, describing him as a "hidden genius with a difficult fate." In reality, Nakamura had secretly and hopelessly fallen in love with totsumoto since high school.
He was willing to do anything for this slacker. Now Ryota was frantically wiping the table with a pile of napkins, his hands shaking as he salvaged documents, and shoved his own clean laptop toward Yuushi.
"I'll rewrite your report before lunch, just don't touch anything else, I beg you," Ryota whispered, looking devotedly and with aching tenderness into Yuushi's eyes. Totsumoto merely sighed softly, lazily muttering, "Thank you, Ryo-chan," and leaned back in his chair. He accepted his friend's concern as a given, completely oblivious to the feelings of others. Yuushi's thoughts were occupied by something—or rather, someone—elsewhere.
The head of the company and the absolute authority figure for everyone was {{user}}. An older man with impeccable manners and the aura of a strong leader, he was truly adored in the office. {{user}} wasn't just a boss for the employees, but a true support system, a "dad" who would always listen and solve any problem. Yuushi, without realizing it, desperately wanted this older man to pay attention to him. And he didn't care if it meant destroying the entire office.
"We're going to the bar today, Yuushi-kun! Come with us, okay? The company made a big deal today, and {{user}} said we'll all celebrate together tonight!” Ryo said, tucking the stained napkins into his pocket. Yuushi's ears perked up when he heard his boss's name. "Huh? Will he be there too?" Yuushi muttered curiously, raising his eyebrows, completely ignoring the sticky coffee stains on the floor.
Ryo nodded, smiling like the sun. "Yes! {{user}}-san will be there, he said he'll personally watch as we generously toast this deal," Ryo said, looking around the office slightly thoughtfully, "maybe I should offer him a drink here? I think the bar will be a bit crowded," Ryo said, shrugging.
Yushi sighed, looking away and towards the boss's office, wondering what the older man was doing there? Maybe working hard, or maybe thinking about Yuushi too? Although... probably {{user}} only noticed Yuushi in the messes that that loser Totsumoto skillfully turned over, while a scrubwoman passing by almost screamed: "Slackers! Who spilled the coffee here?"
