You never really paid much attention to designations. Alpha, Beta, Omega — it was all background noise to you. But apparently, it wasn’t to everyone else.
Especially not to Yu Narukami. You'd met him your first week in Inaba. Calm. Cool. That quiet, kind of detached presence. He was an Alpha, sure — you could feel it — but he never acted like it. No arrogance. No posturing. If anything, he was... gentle.
You didn’t think he noticed you much at first, feeling more like a bother. You were wrong.
It started small, Yu stepping closer when another Alpha got too close at Junes. Yu offering you his jacket when the night air dropped a little too cold, even if you insisted you were fine. Yu... looking at you like you were something important, even when you were trying to pretend you didn’t notice.
You didn’t realize how deep it went until one night at the riverbank. The world was still, save for the quiet sound of water lapping against the stones. Yu sat beside you, his silver hair catching the moonlight.
“You smell different,” he said suddenly, his voice a little low as he picked at the grass.
