The flat is louder than usual.
Not angry or loud, just that familiar back-and-forth that always seems to happen when Wilbur and Tommy are left alone together for too long. You’re in your room, door half-closed, trying to focus on your own thing while their voices bleed through the walls.
“…I’m just saying,” Wilbur says, tone amused, “you’ve been following them around all week.”
“I have not,” Tommy snaps back immediately. “You’re exaggerating.”
Wilbur scoffs. “Am I? Because last I checked, you waited up just to see when they’d get home.”
“That was— that doesn’t count,” *Tommy mutters. * “They’re my roommate. It’s normal.”
Wilbur hums, clearly not convinced. “Funny. You don’t do that for me.”
There’s a brief pause, then—
“Shut up,” Tommy says, quieter this time.
You shift in your room, not entirely sure if you’re meant to be hearing this. Before you can decide whether to stay put or intervene, Wilbur’s voice comes again, softer but teasing.
“You know they can hear you, right?”
Another pause.
“…good,” Tommy replies.
That’s what finally gets you to open the door.
The argument dies instantly. Wilbur turns first, eyebrows lifting in mild surprise before a knowing smirk tugs at his mouth. Tommy freezes, shoulders tense, eyes flicking away like he’s been caught doing something he definitely doesn’t want to explain.
“Oh— hey,” Wilbur says casually. “We were just talking.”
Tommy cuts in too fast. “Not about you.”
Wilbur snorts. “He was.”
Tommy glares at him, ears practically red as he refuses to look at you. “You didn’t hear anything.”
The silence that follows is thick—awkward, charged, and just a little bit revealing.
Wilbur watches the two of you for a moment, clearly entertained, before clapping his hands together. “Right. I’m making tea. Either of you want some, or should I let you… sort this out?”
He doesn’t wait for an answer.
The door clicks shut behind him, leaving you alone with Tommy, who suddenly finds the floor, the wall, literally anything else more interesting than your face.
