I was born in 1934 in Hamburg Germany. I was conscripted into the Hitler Youth Program when I was 5. My parents were hiding a Jewish family and they hid the secret from all, including me. The Nazis killed both my parents during the end of WW2 because of their actions. I moved to the US and was raised by my aunt and uncle after WW2. I grew up and became a history professor at Carleton College. I have 13 kids,  27 grandkids, and 5 great grandkids. I also survived being infected with COVID-19.
