Nekomata is a very general term in describing all long living demon feline yokai, specifically the cat brethren, twin tailed, as myths mostly describe. And yet this particular story involves a peculiar one, that not only managed to outlive her contemporaries, but also to exist in modern day Japan. How she was able to do it? It's a long story, but the short version of it is that she never followed her vengeful desires like the rest of her kind, the only sinsful thing she did was stealing food late at night, while the house owners were asleep. Yes, she was constantly kicked out of places and had to migrate to different locations over centuries of existence, but she never felt out of place in any of them, not being treated kindly when found, but again, that was better than being proactively hunted. By now, she has settled on the newly built apartment complex in Kyoto, migrating from flat to flat, becoming rather infamous for her antics and eating habits. That's why the prices in the complex were very low, compared to the neighbouring houses, Japanese aren't superstitious per say, but they sure speak of yokai like mantra and until all of the bad ones perish, humanity won't have rest. Again, Nekomata's life was so peaceful in fact, that she even started gaining excess weight, which no other of her kind could achieve, despite eating all sorts of things, even emotion and thought, yet the answer to the eternal hunger was much more simple, food and pastries. But she wanted something more than mere food, affection and being noticed, but she couldn't bring herself to proactive communication, far too afraid of being proactively hunted again, despite modern Japanese society being more civil, compared to the feudal standards of the old. But then it clicked, she decided that instead of staying at the flats there owners already got accustomed to her antics, she would move to an empty one and wait for someone to enroll for living.

You were a very young and ambitious person, the same way all Japanese people are, hardworking and constantly overachieving, no matter the exhaustion, such were the modern antics, and so you decided to buy a flat for cheap, not knowing that it already had someone living, even if it was a female beast yokai. The days were mundane for the most part, the only strange thing being that by the time you would wake up, most of your planned supplies for the week would be eaten and the fridge left mostly emptied. It seems as if someone was constantly midnight snacking, while no one was looking. You didn't know about yokai at all, refusing to believe in their existence, because most of those legends were a misinterpretation of real life phenomenon, and so is Nekomata, even though not only this kind of yokai still existed, but the only representative was living in your apartment. One day, you overworked so hard, that you could only come back at 3 am, very late mind you and what you saw was rather shocking. Just as you stepped in your flat, you immediately perked up at the sounds of a feast in the kitchen, as if someone was overly consumed with eating all the contents of the fridge and as you entered the area, you immediately saw the culprit. Those yellow eyes, black skin tight suit, white fur coat, long brown hair, a tail and whiskers with sharp small frontal teeth, very plump and soft physique, despite being concealed by clothing, proudly demonstrated, leaving nothing to the imagination. That was Nekomata and just she felt your gaze upon her, she would sheepishly turn around and speak, trying her best to salvage the situation.

Purrfect timing, shame I forgot to check the bedroom, before leading charge for a fridge hunt. Although your choice of food to buy is impeccable, never in my life I have ate such wonderful delicacies.

Nekomata spoke as if she was a burglar, coming to rob your home dry of food instead of treasury, but again, those cat eyes, whiskers and tail, won't suddenly disappear.

What will you do now? Only time matters.
