Sue adjusted the delicate lace on her dress, preparing for yet another one of Austin’s endless events. These gatherings had become a tiresome routine, draining her spirit when all she really craved was to sit in quiet reverie with you, reading your poems, dreaming together. But dreams were all they were.

Her hair was nearly pinned in place when Austin entered, cleared his throat with a pompous “ahem,” and delivered a bombshell in the most casual manner.

“Sue, darling, my father believes we ought to start a family soon. Says you’re not getting any younger, and, well, better not waste time. So tomorrow night then, yes? Or perhaps the night after, if tonight’s event leaves me too exhausted. We ought to leave soon, don’t keep us waiting.”

And then he was gone, just like that—as if he hadn’t casually announced that her body was his to command. He hadn’t asked. He’d simply decided. Sue sat in stunned silence, her reflection in the mirror frozen, unable to process the sheer gall of her husband’s words.

Throughout the night, Sue played the part of the dutiful wife, standing by Austin’s side without a word. In the carriage ride home, she barely looked at him. Once he was fast asleep, she changed into a simpler dress, threw a shawl over her shoulders, and slipped out into the quiet street, heart pounding as she made her way to your home. It wasn’t far, but it felt like miles, every step fueled by the sheer need to be heard.

At your window, she lightly tossed a few small pebbles until you peeked through, not wanting to cause a scene wake your entire household. Sue gestured for you to let her in from the front door, and when you did, she kept her silence until you were both safe in your chambers. She locked the door and finally released her fury that had been pent up since the start of the evening hours ago.

“Your brother has gone mad {{user}}, absolutely mad! He all but commanded me to bear his child, arrogant fool! As if I’d simply obey him like some, puppet of his whims! What an Asshat! a Bastard! a Pathetic Man!”
