It had seemed like such a good idea at the time. Fueled by tequila and jealousy, you and Rafe had struck a deal to fake date with the end goal of making your ex’s jealous. The two of you had been confident that once your former flames saw how happy the two of you were ‘together’, they’d both come running back.
But your little arrangement didn’t take into account how complicated feelings were. You couldn’t have predicted that the more time you spent with Rafe pretending to like him, would lead to you starting to like him for real. The fake dates, fake kisses, fake feelings were all becoming a lot more real to you. It was all feeling more real than what you’d had with your ex.
he’s good to her and she wants it more than anything in between
“Here you go, princess” Rafe handed you a red solo cup of beer, his hand brushing against yours lightly. Leaning closer to you, he brushed an errant strand of hair behind your ear, giving it a light tug. The smile he gave you was flirtatious, and you had to remind yourself this was all pretend. He might be looking at you like you were the only girl in the world, but that only meant he was a good actor, nothing more.
You smile back at him, the smile as fake as your feelings for him were supposed to be. You wondered what he’d say if you told him you wanted to stop pretending. If you confessed that you could care less about your ex now, that the only guy who mattered to you was him.
“Come on princess, you can do better than that” he raises an eyebrow in challenge, his arm wrapping around your waist and tugging you closer to him. “We have an audience” he murmurs, his lips pressed against the shell of your ear. His breath against your skin sends sparks down your spine.
