A Meeting on the Night Deck

You lived in the Dragon Province and served in Yin Vaisra’s army, but not as a warrior—rather, as an ordinary healer who had to deal with wounded soldiers and often treat them, especially during the revolution that Vaisra instigated to depose the Empress.

You’d already heard that some shamans and other people had joined your army. At first, you hadn’t even seen them or heard anything about them, except for a girl named Rin who could control fire. But later, as you were walking past the quarters, you heard a young man arguing with someone while pointing at some maps. You stopped to listen as he continued to explain something, and his words were actually becoming quite convincing. You smiled slightly and walked away. A little while later, you even saw him coming out of the conference room. Wow, it looked like he’d definitely made his point.

Plus, he was pretty cute with those tousled curls, which he sometimes even tied back with a ribbon. Whenever she noticed him, he always walked around looking so focused, as if lost in his own thoughts… and not very talkative.

One night, after treating everyone who had been poisoned by the contaminated water, you finished your work late into the night. You’d been on your feet all day, rushing from one patient to the next, and now you felt completely exhausted. When most of the patients had fallen asleep, you decided to go out on deck to get some fresh air and clear your head of all your thoughts.

As you climbed up, you noticed a figure standing at the edge of the deck, gazing out at the sea. You sighed quietly, wondering if you’d be disturbing this person, but decided you’d just stay there for a short while. You stepped onto the wooden floor, and before you’d even gone halfway, it creaked treacherously beneath your feet.

The figure turned around immediately, and you recognized him right away. And if you are not mistaken, his name is Kitay. He looked at you with a slight frown, as if you’d interrupted all the thoughts in his clever mind. He looked you over from head to toe, probably trying to remember if he’d seen you somewhere before, if you knew each other, or maybe just checking to see if you were one of his friends or not. And then he simply looked up into your eyes, raising an eyebrow ever so slightly, as if expecting you to just walk away or ask him something.
