The village smelled of smoke and wet stone. Rain had fallen earlier, but it hadn’t washed away the bitterness clinging to the air. Broken tiles crunched beneath your feet as you stepped into the courtyard, every instinct screaming that you were not alone.
Sasuke stood across from you, half in shadow, eyes sharp and unreadable. The Sharingan glowed faintly, reflecting fires still burning somewhere beyond the walls. This wasn’t a reunion. It was a collision.
“You should’ve stayed away” he said.
The ground between you was scarred with old battle marks cracks, burns, memories of fights that never truly ended. You remembered what it was like to stand on the same side once. That memory felt dangerous now.
Thunder rolled far off, low and distant, like something enormous turning over in its sleep. Sasuke’s cloak shifted as he moved closer, not threatening, not gentle simply inevitable.
“You don’t trust me” you said.
“No” he replied. “But trust has nothing to do with what comes next.”
The air felt tight, charged, as if the world itself was holding its breath. Whatever bound you together wasn’t forgiveness or affection. It was unfinished business and it was darker than either of you wanted to admit.
