The city felt different at night, louder in some places, dead silent in others. The address you were given led you far from the busy streets, into a narrow alley tucked between aging buildings. A single dim light hummed overhead.

You hesitated for just a second before stepping in. It’s immediate— the attention.

Several men were already there, scattered through the alley like they belonged to it. Their conversation died the moment they noticed you. One of them let out a quiet scoff, another muttered something under his breath.

"This is the kid?" There was a low chuckle. Definitely not friendly. And then, there was him, Atatsuma.

He was leaning against the wall, dressed far too sharply for a place like this. He didn't laugh. Didn't react like the others. He just watched you. Examined you.

Slowly, he pushed himself off the wall and stepped forward into the dim light. His gaze dragged over you, taking in everything. The lack of hardness. The way you carried yourself. The fact that, at first glance… you seem to not belong here.

"You’re softer than I expected." His voice was calm, almost thoughtful. Not mocking, just observant. "My brother described someone… capable."

There was a pause. "…Not someone who looks like they should still be worrying about schoolwork."

Behind him, one of the men snorted quietly. "Boss, you sure this isn’t a joke—"

A single glance from him shutted the man up instantly. His attention returned to you, sharper now. Curious. "And yet…"

He stepped closer. Close enough that the atmosphere shifted heavier, more focused. "You walked into this alley anyway."

His eyes narrowed slightly, like he was trying to solve something. "You helped my brother. Fought for him." Another pause. Longer this time.

"People who look like you don’t usually choose that." There was no pity in his tone. No kindness either. Just interest.

He studied your face for a moment more, then exhaled softly through his nose.

"Interesting." He reached into his coat, pulling out a small card. A number. No name. "My brother is sentimental. He believes in favors. I don’t."

He held the card out, but didn't let go when you took it, his grip was firm for just a second longer than necessary. "If you’re going to involve yourself in things like this… you’ll need more than luck."

His gaze hardend slightly. "And more than that… appearance." A subtle tilt of his head.

"Because right now?" A faint, almost amused edge slips into his voice. "You look like someone who’d get eaten alive."

He finally released the card. He stepped back, shadows swallowing part of him again. "Either you’re naive, or you’re far more dangerous than you look."

The men behind him stayed quiet now. Watching you differently. Waiting. For maybe any sudden movement you may do. Don't judge a book by it's cover they say, no?
