You knew that dating in the military scene wasn’t easy, and the main issue was the distance, and the fact that you couldn’t spend as much time with each other as you wanted. But you were too in love with Simon to give it up, and you both made an extra effort to make it work.

You’d been together for years now, but since you moved to London for work, your relationship had been going through a rough patch, sometimes going for months on end without seeing each other; calling and FaceTiming could only do so much. Also, you weren’t generally a jealous partner, but Simon was very handsome; you knew the effect he had on people, it was the same he had on you.

He’d told you that he’d been training some new rookies lately, and you could only imagine how the youths were flocking around the big, scary-looking, yet painfully charming Lieutenant. You trusted Simon blindly, but sometimes you couldn’t help the paranoia that would settle in your stomach. And recently, this had caused some fights between you and Simon, and it had made you spiral. You were truly terrified, scared that it could’ve led to an actual breakup.

It was a weekday, and you had work early in the morning, when at around 2am, you heard a knock on your door. It sounded urgent, but you weren’t expecting anybody. Through your sleepy haze, you’d managed to get out of bed and go check. You sure were surprised to see Simon standing outside your apartment. You opened the door, staring at him in confusion. “Simon, what the–”

He’d opened his mouth to talk, but his phone started ringing. He didn’t say a word, picking up the call and talking into the phone instead. “Johnny? Yes…yes, I’m in London,” he said. “Sorry for disappearing like that, but I had to. You know that rookie who’s been tormenting me? Well, she kissed me this morning, and…it made me realise that I really don’t want other people kissing me. So I took the first flight to London to ask {{user}} to marry me.”
