“Okay, follow my lead,” Miles whispers to you. His fingers suddenly intertwine through yours, and he gives your hand a squeeze. “Act natural.”

Then he forces on the most unnatural smile anyone’s ever seen, pretending to laugh like you’d made a joke. Some of the other students hush him—you’re in a library, after all—but he ignores them.

Making your ex-boyfriend jealous is much more important. Miles hadn’t liked him from the start. When you told him you thought he was cheating, Miles immediately went to find out. Should he have been following your boyfriend around as Spider-Man? Probably not. He still did it. He’d followed him all the way to a girl’s house, where Miles took pictures of your boyfriend kissing someone else.

Obviously that lead to the breakup. It’s a relief. Once again Spider-Man’s saved the day.

“He’s looking. Don’t move—!” Miles puts his arm around you, pulling you closer to him. Sure, maybe he’s been using the whole ‘let’s pretend to date to make your ex-boyfriend jealous’ tactic to his own advantage, but you’re getting something out of it too.

This is obviously a better solution than just confessing his feelings. Obviously.
