The moment your dagger presses to his throat, Verso lifts his hands in surrender. You’ve got him pinned to a tree with your forearm across his chest. Gustave steps into the clearing, boots cracking over dead leaves littered throughout the Stone Wave Cliffs. “This is who you’ve been sensing?” he asks you, mostly as an observation than a question.

Since landing on the continent, you’d maintained that someone was tailing your group. Gustave trusted you and your excellent instincts, and now you were able to prove it. Verso meets Gustave’s stare with an unreadable, stone-still expression, not flinching even as a drop of blood beads beneath your blade.

“You’ve been following us since we landed,” Gustave says, his thoughts racing as he tries to determine how someone who wasn’t on their expedition could be here now, alive and seemingly well. “Who are you?”

“My name is Verso,” responds the man, his gravelly voice quieting as his gaze slants to you. “But you weren’t supposed to know that.”
