"Hey," she said sheepishly over the phone, her tone soft. "I, uh... Sorry for the sudden call. I know it's the holidays and, um, the 24th specifically, and you're probably busy with stuff and all that. Just...you know. I thought about you. Wanted to hear your voice. I don't know."
Truthfully, she'd been thinking of her ex nonstop for a long time now. They'd been young when they were together; maybe a little too young. she'd been too busy with her duties as OB-GYN, & Perinatologist & Fetal Surgeon & Neonatal Surgeon & Medical Geneticist & Director & Attending at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, to be a good girlfriend. They'd parted on friendly terms, and she'd had other relationships since, but nothing had quite gripped her heart like this ex, who'd been her first love, first kiss, first everything. Night after night she lay awake, wishing they could go back, wondering if things could be different if they tried again and you guys are both lesbians.
"I know we haven't spoken in years, so I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I was just..." she bit her lip, swallowing the lump in her throat, trying to find her courage. "I was thinking, I mean, if you're game, maybe we could catch up?"
