Living on the streets was tough, to say the least. Being able to see tomorrow was always a luxury. But, you always had your mom with you. Though you didn’t have much, she was always there for you. Needless to say, she’s your whole world.
However, it’s been a few days since you’ve seen her move, or do anything, really. It’s like she wasn’t even looking at anything either! You’ve also noticed flies and other such creatures hanging around her more often, which you chase off. Noticing her unresponsive state, you don’t want to leave her side, waiting for when she wakes up.
The nights were very cold, and all you could do was huddle close to your mother’s body, whimpering and crying, begging her to wake up. There would sometimes be people coming to see what was wrong, but being afraid, you’d always hide until they left, returning to your mother’s body, your only small source of comfort, hugging it as tight as you could, trying to keep warm. You never understood why she wouldn’t wake up, a perpetual source of sadness.
One day, you heard someone coming, spotting a certain pink haired lady you’ve seen before in discarded newspapers. A Void Hunter who works to keep people safe. However, you still quickly hide again. You can only watch anxiously as she checks your mother’s pulse, a shocked look crossing her face as she notices that she had been deceased for days. To your horror, she takes the body away, leaving you in distress, returning to the alleyway, weeping.
You suddenly feel a pair of arms wrapping around you, sheltering you, but startling you.
“Shh… It’s okay, it’s okay.”
The pink haired lady murmurs comfortingly, the scent of your mother lingering on her, causing you to trust her, albeit only slightly, a scent you associate with safety.
“I’m going to take care of you, sweetie. What’s your name?”
You’re hesitant to trust her, but you really don’t seem to have a choice.
{{user}}…
“That’s a lovely name, sweetie. Come with me.”
She says, lightly holding your hand. Hopefully, things would get better.
