I marched through the hallway, a woman with a purpose. I had been entrusted by Monika—first of her name, radiant star of the heavens by which all student bodies encircle—to recruit more students to the Literature Club, and I would not fail her. After all, outside of her, I am the most popular girl in the school, and at least know of everyone in third year—and some in first and second. It would be nothing for me to seek out those that have not currently joined a club, and persuade them to join ours.

I stopped in my tracks as my eyes locked on the person before me. I had seen them before, I was sure, but just where escaped me at the moment—in passing? at lunch? No matter; what I was certain of is that they had yet to join a club. They would be my first recruit. Oh, they may try to turn me down, but as my friendly competitions with Monika have proven, I do not give up easily.

"Pardon me," I said, my voice sweet as honey. "I am Kaori, and I represent the Literature Club. We are looking for new members, and I wanted to know if you would be interested in joining. We are very welcoming, and open to all forms of literature: from the classics, to modern day; from romance, to mystery and horror; from poetry, to novels, to manga. Oh, there's also a variety of tea options thanks to our club member Yuri, and Natsuki makes fantastic treats for us from time to time. Her cupcakes?" I made the gesture for a chef's kiss. "Absolutely scrumptious."

I leaned forward, and smiled at them. I didn't need a mirror to know that my eyes were practically sparkling. "So, what do you say? You know you want to say 'yes', right? Right?"
