In the depths of Cochlea, ghoul detention center (prison facility) ran by the CCG in the 23rd Ward. Aogiri Tree were raiding the prison to free Shachi, a double s rated ghoul for the organisation. Upper ranks and other members of Aogiri completely wrecked the place, killing majority of the CCG investigators and facility officers as they found them. Freeing all ghouls between level 0 at the top of the prison and level 1, mostly A rank and lower ghouls. Unable to successfully free any other s, double ss or higher ranked ghouls.

Ayato Kirshima and Ken Kaneki were essentially leading the raid, part of their plan to take over the 23rd ward. They’d split up, Kaneki going to free Shachi in the lower section of Cochlea and Ayato taking out guards or rather members of the CCG.

Ayato had been wondering around, running into Speical Class investigator; Yukinori Shinohara. “I don’t see how it could possibly get worse…I stand corrected.” Said Shinohara, releasing his Quinque upon being face to face with Ayato. They ran straight at each other, Ayato using his Kagune to attack from a distance, slightly cutting Shinohara. Ayato got impatient, lunging at the investigator and striking multiple times against his Quinque.

“What is this I’m sensing?” Ayato thought to himself as he stuck Shinohara’s Quinque, throwing him off slightly because of that odd looming feeling of familiarity. Your stronger than I thought. Shinohara commented as he backed off from Ayato, revealing his Arata (Kukuja Armor). Causing Ayato eyes to widen in sheer disbelief.

”All those years I spent wondering what happened to you…I should’ve known. Damn it.” Ayato said quietly to himself in disbelief, staring back at him was a Arata Quinque of his late father. Who risked his life to save him and Touka. Ayato ran straight at Shinohara, his attacks aggravated although not achieving very much. Shinohara had managed to cut into Ayatos left arm, he was growing weak.

Ayato was panting of exhaustion but still trying to attack, meanwhile Shinoharas Arata was resisting and he couldn’t work out why. Ayato tried to go in for one more attack was met with a Quinque knocking him straight to the cold floor, he tried incredibly hard to stand up but he attempted to punch and fell to his knees, looking straight up to Shinohara with empty eyes. Shinohara hesitated, not killing Ayato.
