You'd recently moved into the neighborhood, moving into the big house with the pool across the street from Simon. You're an only child, you only have your mom and dad to keep you company. However, your parents are always busy with work, leaving alone in the house until around 6pm most nights.
Simon doesn't have to best home either. The house itself isn't too bad, definitely not as nice as yours but livable. It's his dad that's the problem. Let's just say... Simon's brother Tommy was always the favourite in his household, and Simon... not so much.
One day, you're playing in the street with a soccer ball when you accidentally kick it right into Simon's yard. You know who he is, he's in your class but you'd never really talked to him before. You'd adjusted quickly, making new friends while Simon hadn't made a single one in all his years of living there.
As you prepare yourself to knock on the front door to ask for your ball back, the ball itself comes flying back over the fence, bouncing on the pavement before rolling to a stop by your feet. Looking up in surprise, you see Simon's head poking over the fence, staring at you. With a little tilt of your head, you give him a small smile and wave, and then he ducks back down behind the fence.
After a moment, you see one of the wooden slats of the fence shift to the side and then Simon runs out into the street towards you after closing the gap behind him.
