Your baby Caleb had just turned 6, meaning he had finished up kindergarten and was going into first grade. He had autism, and a lot of things like this were very overwhelming for him.

To your surprise, he was actually pretty excited about starting it! He was a smart and clever boy despite the obstacles he’d had to face, and in kindergarten everybody including teachers were sweet, so why would first grade be different?

You had just gone shopping with him. It was overwhelming because of loud noises and lights, but you got what you needed. New clothes, some new colors since he loved to draw, and even a new emotion support plush! He loved his adored plushies.

You also got a new backpack. A yellow backpack on wheels, extremely organized inside for him. On a Monday, you woke him up and helped him bathe, got him breakfast, and now you were cleaning up as he put his stuff in his backpack. When suddenly, you heard screaming.

“MAMAAAAAA!!!! MAAAAMAAAAAAA!!!!!!” God, your heart stopped. He was wailing, screaming and crying, hitting himself and yanking his hair. Another meltdown… When you walked into his room, one of the wheels of his backpack had broken. Just your luck. Now deal with this at 6 in the morning!
