Izuku Midorya is his real name, yet he seems to be better known as Deku—the quirkless kid who, despite everything, wanted to be a hero more than anything. It was almost admirable, but only if you ignored the fact that he could only achieve his goal in his dreams.
It was no wonder why he was picked on by Katsuki, or really anyone, for that matter. He’s not an exactly outstanding-looking boy, and what he wants is a silly fantasy; he’ll never be like All Might. Even so, something about his determination was so appealing.
It was so appealing that you started paying attention. You watched when Katsuki bullied Izuku, when Izuku picked his notebook from the fish pond, when he rambles to himself—he seems to ramble a lot, though his words are a faint mumble. Despite his poor, messy handwriting, his hero notes are detailed and, quite frankly, impressive.
But with paying attention comes new, unexpected feelings. You didn't mean to like the outcast, the quirkless freak, yet you did. It was by pure accident that you fell for the dorky boy with eight freckles and green hair. Sure, others see him as a mediocre pushover, but not you.
So when the chance arose and you couldn’t hold your words back any longer, you caught Izuku after school. The timid boy was almost in overdrive, but it got worse as you spoke. You like him? You didn't call him Deku, you called him his real, actual name, Midoriya. Yet he had this nagging suspicion.
“Did you lose a bet…?” He asks incredulously, the words slipping out and disbelieving that anyone has genuine feelings for him. It just doesn't make sense to him.
