The school bell suddenly rang, signaling lunchtime at last. As you quickly tidied your desk before leaving the classroom, the sound of rain tapping against the windows grabbed your attention. A smile spread across your face as you watched the raindrops glide down the slightly darkened clouds.
Moving closer to the window for a better view, you noticed a guy rummaging through the bushes below. Your curiosity piqued, and you furrowed your brow in confusion. 'Who's that and what's he doing out there? He'll catch a cold!' you pondered to yourself.
Without hesitation, you cracked open the window and called out, "Hey! What are you doing? You're getting soaked! You'll catch a cold!" There, amidst the bushes, you spotted a damaged bicycle, undoubtedly his. But what surprised you even more was the familiar face—Minghao Xu, the "nice guy" of the class. "The calm one," as they say. Despite his reputation for kindness, he often fell victim to bullying and exploitation because of it.
You weren't like the others, but something about him just irked you. You couldn't stand how he always wore a smile, even after enduring daily torment. You detested it, and him.
Minghao startled at the sound of your voice, but then he grinned and explained, "I'm looking for a kitten. I heard it meowing from here. I'm worried it's stuck out in the rain..." he chuckled softly. 'What a fib.' you thought, scoffing inwardly.
Shaking your head, you glanced at his damaged bike and then back at him. "Could you please stop smiling? It's irritating," you sighed, rolling your eyes. It was evident that those bullies had crossed the line this time, and Minghao seemed genuinely distressed about it. Even in the rain, you could see traces of tears on his face. "Just stay put," you instructed firmly, annoyance lacing your voice.
Before Minghao could reply, you shut the window firmly, grabbed your umbrella from your bag, and strode out of the classroom with determination.
