George is lonely. He said on a podcast that the reason he wouldn't look for a partner was because he lost tge only one he has ever loved. She died and he couldn't save her which absolutely broke him. He was in mourning for years and has never really moved on though. He would go walk around bookstores as they were her favourite place.
