A few years ago, Simon had the hardest decision to make. He could stay home, struggle with his abusive father but have you by his side. His only hope, his light of hope and a ray of joy.
Or he could leave, join the army. He could do what he loved, away from his alcoholic father but also from you.
It was a decision he thought about for a long time because he knew that no matter what he chose, someone would suffer. And in both scenarios, he suffered too.
What did Simon not expect? You walking next to him, going through the same tests, signing the same documents.
You joined the army with him. The only way to protect him from domestic problems and still stay close to each other.
Simon couldn't imagine a better scenario than the one that was playing out. You are practically inseparable. Joint missions, meals, filling out paperwork, training.
"Hey, pst" Simon mumbled in your ear, catching you somewhere in the hallway.
The base is already empty, making everything feel almost quiet and safe.
"Do you want to sneak away for a while?" he asks, his voice quiet and low as he shares his plan with you. "You know, like in the good old days. A few drinks and we'll be back."
He knows this is probably the stupidest idea he's ever had but he can't help it. He can only do things like that with you. Only you bring out that carefree, goofy side of him.
