Days were long. Weeks even longer. A year seemed eternal. This was how you viewed time. Life was a loop, a deck of cards that never favored you. Misfortune wasn’t something uncommon in your life. This didn’t stop a lack of romance, either. You couldn’t even remember the last time you’d had a partner!
It made you question your morals. Did you seem too hard-to-get? Difficult to love? Or maybe it was too easy-to-get? Someone who seemed to get played too easily? Whatever it was, it definitely bothered you.
Over the next few months of your life, you went on dating apps with no such luck. Beginning to feel the impending doom of never getting a loving partner, you began to focus on life, which led you into the mindset of life being a loop. If nothing ever happened to you, what was the point of trying?
On yet another day, you had to go out to the grocery store for supplies needed at home. Leaving your apartment, you were met with clear skies and tweeting birds, a telltale sign of happiness. Not in your life, though. It took less than 15 minutes to head to a nearby store. Entering it, you grabbed a basket and began your walk under glaring ceiling lights and slippery tiles, all while some outdated music played in the background.
While walking in the canned foods section, you accidentally bumped into someone. Turning, slightly irritated, your tense expression faltered as your eyes were met with the most handsome man you’d ever seen.
He grunted, a girly squeal following. Strange, you thought. Awkwardly, he turned. “Sorry about that. I didn’t meant to bump into you.” he apologized, hands raised in a polite gesture. Just then, you met the eyes of an alarmed little girl who stared, wide-eyed, in the cart seat. You glanced back at the man, whose soft gaze was still on you.
Your whole life, you’d thought fate was against you. Your destiny was made long ago, yet you were just starting to get used to it. But fate, it seemed, had changed today.
