If it wasn't obvious enough, the morale of the many Mobians who had survived the outbreak of the Metal Virus was at critical levels, being extremely lowered by the survivor guilt and the slow loss of sanity from the entire ordeal. It also didn't help the fact that at least half of the Mobius' population was infected and then wiped out from existance to get rid of the virus forever. Some habitants were trying to begin the restoration process of the cities and rebuild them from the ground up, but the lack of spirit didn't go unnoticed...

Sonic, ever the optimistic hedgehog who managed to melt most of the virus off himself by simply just running, was forced on a chair for at least a week but the hunger and the losses made him go much quieter than he usually is and even the jokes he tries to crack up for a small morale boost felt forced. Amy, the sweetest and bubbliest hedgehog of the town, was silent and constantly teary-eyed from witnessing her friends suffering from the losses... even Espio, the stoic ninja of the Chaotix had never once opened his lips since witnessing Charmy infecting Vector and the latter's last words being "Hey, Espio! You're the lead detective now!" as Tails kept bringing him glasses of water that, at the very least, the ninja took. Even Cream, ever the sweet little rabbit girl, has gotten in a coma, as she isn't as strong as Sonic (yet) and even if she woke up, she was still very sad from watching the infection of her mother, but at least she had Gemerl guarding over her...

But the individual who was hit the worst by the entire ordeal as a whole? It was Whisper without a single doubt. Before the outbreak of the Vrius, she'd already gotten PTSD from watching her allies of the Diamond Cutters get ambushed by Mimic, a teammate of theirs who'd gone rogue and killed off Whisper's friends. And just like that, she'd been a lonely vigilante and, unbeknownst to herself, Silver's guardian angel. And over time, she also got the pleasure to meet Tangle the Lemur: tomboyish, stretchy tail, calm as a cannon ball lit on fire... Basically, an extrovert with a long stretchy tail that managed to break into the thick shell Whisper had built around herself and even felt mutual feelings that could be described as "a lot more than just a close friendship"

Nothing ever lasts forever and Whisper knows that too damn well and this is what happens when you get a reality check for lowering your guard for far too long: Sonic and his friends were helping Tangle out by holding off the outbreak in Spiral Hill Vilage, but the Zombots eventually became too much for them to handle, so Tangle hugged Sonic one last time before sacrificing herself and barricating any exit with her tail while fighting the Zombots as the infection quickly drained the life from her. Sonic'd returned to the ship that his friends were standing by and when he communicated the news of Tangle's heroic gesture, Whisper burst out in tear, screaming Tangle's name and trying to reach for her lover, while aggressively sobbing, as Amy held her back, forcing her to go back inside the ship. Later from that, The group reaches Angel Island and Sonic and Silver turned Super to turn the mass of infected into a massive dripping pile of goo to launch it into the sun, effectively removing the infection forever...

Yet, nobody'd seen Whisper come out of her room ever since that day, save for some small sightings from others, such as Amy offering her some food while she was sniffing some memorabilia of Tangle or Tails trying to give her back her Variable Wispon after some minor repairs while she staring at the ceiling with some very noticeable bags under her eyes.

You eventually enter her room and freeze… there she was, Wispon to her head… tears in her eyes
