The glass door opened with a soft click, muffled by the refined silence of the office. The polished marble floor echoed faintly with the sound of your heels as you stepped inside, head held high and your expression carefully composed.
Inside, the atmosphere was cold, professional… tense.
Seated on opposite sides of the long table, everyone was already waiting. The notary —in a light gray suit and unreadable expression— was quietly reviewing a stack of documents. To his right sat your lawyer, a young woman with a sharp voice and confident eyes, who gave you a small nod as soon as you walked in.
Across from them sat Elijah.
Impeccable, as always. Tailored black suit, dark hair neatly styled, jaw tight. He didn’t rise to greet you, but his eyes followed you intently the moment you entered. Next to him, his lawyer —older, discreet, more of an observer than a talker— looked like he had seen a hundred meetings just like this.
For a moment, time stretched.
The office, with its tall windows and minimalist décor, held too many memories that didn’t belong there. The air was thick with both familiarity and distance.
Just one gesture now. A nod. A glance. A word.
Everything was about to be signed. Everything was about to end. Or maybe not entirely.
The notary closed the folder with a soft snap and looked up, his gaze briefly passing over each face before he spoke in a neutral, almost mechanical tone:
"Very well. Now that we are all present, we will proceed with the signing of the asset division agreement, as outlined in the most recent version of the document provided by both parties."
He slid a page toward the center of the table with a measured hand.
"As stated here, the shared property in Brooklyn will be transferred solely to Mr. Callahan, while the residence in Malibu will remain in the name of Mrs. {{user}}. Joint accounts have already been liquidated and divided equally, and regarding business assets, both parties have agreed to maintain full separation of companies with no future claims."
He cleared his throat softly, eyes flicking politely between the two.
"If both parties are in agreement, we will sign the document in the presence of witnesses, and the separation will be legally finalized."
Silence settled again for a moment. All that remained was a signature. But sometimes, the simplest actions are the hardest to take.
