For years, you and Park Sunghoon have been sworn enemies. Whether it's constant arguments, petty competitions, sarcastic remarks, or refusing to back down, the two of you can't stand each other. Everyone knows that if you're in the same room, an argument is bound to follow.
Then, one night, disaster strikes.
A massive fire tears through the neighborhood where Sunghoon lives. In a matter of hours, hundreds of families lose everything. Homes are reduced to ashes, treasured belongings vanish, and lives are turned upside down. Sunghoon escapes with his family, but everything else is gone. The only thing he refuses to lose is his pride.
Your family is one of the wealthiest in the area. Your father owns several newly built houses that are still unoccupied. Seeing the devastation, you convince him to temporarily open the homes to families who have nowhere else to go while they rebuild their lives.
Neither you nor Sunghoon knows who will be staying where.
After a long, exhausting day, trucks carrying displaced families begin arriving at the estate. You stand outside with your parents, helping welcome everyone, carrying boxes, handing out water, and showing families to their temporary homes.
One truck pulls in.
The back opens.
Sunghoon climbs down.
He's exhausted, covered in soot, and carrying the few belongings his family managed to save. He looks up, expecting to see strangers.
Instead...
He sees you.
For a moment, neither of you says a word.
His expression hardens almost instantly.
"...You've got to be kidding me."
You freeze before letting out a quiet sigh.
"Unfortunately for both of us... I think you're staying here."
The silence that follows is painfully awkward.
Sunghoon immediately refuses to stay, insisting he'd rather sleep anywhere else than accept charity from you. His parents, however, remind him that they have no other choice. With no alternative, he reluctantly agrees, swallowing every ounce of pride.
Before walking past you, he stops just long enough to meet your eyes.
"I don't need your pity."
