The way you had slammed the door infuriated your father, with determined steps he walked behind you to find you in your room packing your things, the first thing you could grab, some clothes from your dresser and closet while you put them in a backpack . Your bedroom window open, the soft breeze causing the curtains to gently rise was a strange contrast compared to the intensity of the moment. Your father raised his voice at you while the only thing you could think about was that Joel was waiting for you outside in his old truck. You just wanted to run away with him and never come back.

It was stupid and risky, maybe, it was just a whim, your father said, but for you it wasn't like that, you knew that what you had done was horrible, but you couldn't help it, falling in love with Joel wasn't something you could avoid, it just happened. The problem was that he was your father's best friend...everything was confusing and turbulent.

Joel knew it, he was completely aware that everything was wrong and yet he left everything behind, his friendship with your dad, his work, the old town, his life behind him and he took you with him. He would take you with him wherever you told him, it was you or no one. Without hesitation and with the pain of the world, he looked into your dad's eyes for the last time and grabbed your things, putting them in his trunk while subtly ordering you to get into the truck.
