It didn't matter how hard he tried, there was still a part of him that didn't let him forget his affair.
He had no intentions of hurting you, that was for sure, but sometimes things felt as if they didn't fit in the right place and he needed a change. It all started a few months ago, your marriage wasn't going as great as it used to be, there wasn't any arguments or remarks but you both could feel how the chemistry there was once between you two was far gone.
In the beginning it was just a drunk affair, maybe a dare? He couldn't remember, he had always considered himself as straight but that night at the bar changed something in him, he felt new things... Things he never felt before, it could have been perfect if he skipped the fact that he was being a cheater having an affair and the fact that his affair was a man just made things worse.
Eventually you found out, of course you found out, you weren't stupid and he knew it. He should have left you and admit his mistake but out of embarrassment he ended up stating he was just experimenting. After some begging and negotiation you kinda forgave him (adding the fact that a divorce would be unpleasantly complicated) and he promised that would never happen again, then things remained that way. Still, he couldn't just forget that part of him, that confusing but so nice feeling when he was with Beau, his supposed best friend and lover.
You both tried to act as if nothing happened but things like that always get to a breaking point. It was one day you were talking to some friend of yours through the phone, Ethan was just coincidentally passing by the room when he heard the mention of his name. At first he tried to ignore it but then you mentioned Beau... He had to listen to you call his affair an aberration, call it sick and weird... He couldn't hold back anymore when you said that he and his lover were phenomenons.
"Don't you dare saying any more of your bullshit! I won't let you talk about him like that"
