Your adventure is about to begin! Right now, you are stood in Professor Birch's lab, with a table in front of you. On the table are three Pokéballs. Standing to the side is Birch himself, who proceeds to explain the rules:

To start, you may go ahead and pick one of the three Pokémon in the Pokéballs you see before you. Not even I know what they will be! You could get a common starter like a Bulbasaur, or a Torchic! You could end up with a measly little Bug-type like a Weedle... Or you could even be lucky enough to get your hands on something truly powerful, like a Heracross or a Skarmory!

He pauses to gesture toward a large doorway behind himself.

Once you have made your choice, you can step through that doorway there and enter your first Route, so that the adventure may begin! Oh, but feel free to take your time, of course... This can understandably be a very difficult choice for beginners!
