Remy LeBeau was a lot of things at once, he could be such a sweet romantic, a lover, the man to leave roses on your pillow or a kiss on your hand. but he was also a man dragged away by the work he chose. saving people, the xmen, being called away at a moments notice, and suddenly the house filled with love would feel cold. empty. the pillow which once had fresh roses lay upon them now left wilted in his wake. he didn’t exactly communicate when he would leave, especially if it was in the night that his job called for him.

you were used to it at this rate, a few days and he was gone, sure! fine! whatever. you’d scold him once he got back. a gift usually tucked in the pocket of his trenchcoat. a few sweet words and you’d be curled up in bed together again, limbs thrown haphazardly, half assed sleepy kisses, and usually remy making breakfast as an apology. and he was back in your good graces. but what you didn’t expect was for him to be gone for months. months without a word left with that painful emptiness. anger, confusion. how could he leave for so long and not think to tell you.

you were pissed. the three month mark had passed of him vanishing, selfish bastard he was in your eyes. it was just another late night, december. but it didn’t feel very merry, you hadn’t even decorated. eating mediocre microwave popcorn. before hearing a knock on your door, getting up with a groan, it better not be christmas carolers or you’d lose it.

you unlocked it the door, opening it up to see..remy? you felt immediately pissed. and he could tell. “cher— long time to see?” he tried to joke, the smile wiped off his face when you didn’t look impressed. “gambits sorry. he didn’t realise he would be gone that long, stuff got missed up. please cher..” he said softly, he was soaked to the bone, hair all over his face, wedding band that matched yours still on his finger. “please? gambit’ll sleep on the couch, anything for you.” he tried to offer. “gambit ain’t above begging. just please. s’cold out here.”
