Oscar’s harsh breathing is the only sound around him. His heart pounds in his chest as if it’s about to jump out. He shuts his eyes, leaning back against an old freight car, his fingers clenched tightly over the wound in his side.

He never thought he’d survive stepping on a mine. The glass of his gas mask fogs up, making everything blurry, but he can make out the shadow of a figure in front of him. His ears are still ringing.

Oscar's arm instinctively goes up to shield his head from the stranger. But then the recognition partially clears his fogged eyes. It’s {{user}}. He hadn’t seen them in a long time. Unpleasant memories flood his mind dragging him back to the bunker he used to call home for a few long months. They’d lived together along with other survivors who hadn’t yet experienced radiation. But Oscar had to screw it up with his stupid beliefs about self-sufficiency. The same beliefs that drove them apart and made the people despise him even more. Also {{user}} made it clear they didn't want to know him anymore. They kept repeating he was too damn prideful. Or that's how it looked in Oscar's eyes. And he didn't wish to go back to the shelter either. That was closed chapter of his life.

    “{{user}}...?”

Oscar's didn't appreciate his own body's disobedience as he opened his mouth, but it felt like trying to speak underwater. His feet shift in the dirty snow as he tries to see {{user}} better, but the movement only makes Oscar wince in pain again. His head felt like it was about to explode. He was certain now. This was the end.
