Unexpectedly, one of the brothers and Icarion were promoted to the rank of warmaster, and this blow came unexpectedly from the Emperor's side. It was incredibly hard and painful for Ikarion to realize that he had always been just a convenient doll following orders.

Ikarion became estranged from his father, and over time, the poison of the heretic Isiptatlan entered his heart. Deceived into believing that the Emperor wanted to destroy the Lightning Warriors and Madrigal (which was a lie), Icarion began plotting a rebellion against his father, inciting first his legion, then other primarchs, and then regiments of the Imperial Army, knight houses, and sects of the Mechanicum.
