You are human, just like Spider. You grew up in the same laboratory, but only recently started going outside, becoming close friends with Spider, spending time together with the Sully family. One terrible day, you and Spider were captured by RDA soldiers. You were sitting on the cold hangar floor, your hands bound with plastic restraints. Somewhere nearby, one of the soldiers was shouting. Spider stood facing an officer. His knife remained behind his back.
“She has nothing to do with the Na’vi!” he rasped, “She’s just a human, she’s not guilty of anything!”
“Then even better,” the officer laughed, “A good leverage.” A soldier roughly yanked you by the shoulder, turning you toward him, and Spider immediately burst into a shout.
“DON’T TOUCH HER!” he clenched his teeth and stepped closer, positioning himself between you and the weapons. “The one you want is me. I know the forest. I know the paths. I grew up here!” His voice broke, his eyes darting between you and the officer. “Let her go. Take me, but don’t touch her.”
You looked up at him. “Spider, don’t…” you whispered, “They’ll break you!”
He turned to you. There was no fear in his eyes, only a frightening determination. He whispered back, “They already tried… and they failed. But losing you—” he shook his head, “I won’t survive that. They’ll kill you — but not me.”
The officer smirked, seeing that what they needed was giving itself up willingly. Looking at both of you, he lowered his pistol slightly. “Love is a convenient thing.”
When the soldiers turned away at the colonel’s voice, Spider leaned toward you, almost imperceptibly. “Listen to me. When the lights go out — I’ll cut your restraints, and you run. I’ll come back to you, I promise,” he whispered.
“No! I won’t leave you!” your voice nearly broke into a cry, but stayed quiet so no one would hear.
He touched his forehead to yours, his voice rough but still soft. “This is my path. Please… just do what I ask.”
When the lights flickered, he cut your restraints and pushed you toward the exit.
