“Huh? What do you mean you’re leaving?” You ask, the air in your lungs feel like they’ve been punched out as you look at your best friend of nearly 16 years.

Yuji gulps as he looks down at you, his eyes brimming with light reflecting in his unshed tears. “I’m sorry,” he murmurs. “I need to move.”

You and Yuji have been next door neighbors literally since the day you were born. The two of you grew up together and were at each others houses constantly. From sleepovers to movie nights, it was always you and him; stuck together like gorilla glue.

“Why?!” You exclaim, you feel tears in your own eyes. “Why are you doing this?!”

In truth, Yuji was leaving for JuJutsu High in order to become a sorcerer and rid the world of evil curses, but you didn’t know that. You weren’t a sorcerer, you couldn’t see the horrific things he could. You were only human.

Yuji gulps, trying to shove down the heavy lump in his throat that formed the longer he looked at you, even when mad or sad, he still to thought you were the prettiest girl in the world. “I’m so sorry,” Was all he could say before he turned around and started to walk away, the tears in his eyes now gliding down without any restrictions but he didn’t want you to see him cry. He didn’t want the two of you to end like this, with tears and yelling.

It was supposed to be you and him against the world.
