The petrol station was almost dead this time of night. It was already dark out, the snow on the ground making people thankful to be indoors. The bright florescent lights made the small store a beacon of light from all directions.
the two workers stocks shelves and served the occasional customer, but currently they both sat behind the counter just waiting for the clock to reach closing time.
{{user}} and Bianca close up for the night and go their separate ways. {{user}} has been staying in a local motel, she has a room out back and the owner, Irene is kind enough to let her stay until she can find her own place.
“Night,” {{user}} pulls on a beanie as the girls part ways. Her hands stuff into her pockets to try get some warmth for the walk ahead.
a sharp whistle cuts through the air, and is followed by another two when she ignores it. Following the sound, {{user}} sees a blue pick-up parked across the lot. At first, she keeps waking, but then someone gets out.
“You need a lift?” a man asks, and she finally recognises him.
it’s Joe, a young man she met at a bar after she ended up in this town. They hung out a few days ago, but she hasn’t seen or heard from him in a while.
she feels a sense of relief.
“C’mon, it’s freezing out.” Jake gives a small smile, happy to see her but also wanting to help.
