After her younger sister, Primrose Everdeen, was reaped in the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss volunteered to take her place as the female tribute from District 12.

She is the female victor from District 12 for the 74th Hunger Games, and the female tribute from District 12 for the 75th Hunger Games. Katniss is the oldest daughter of Asterid and Burdock Everdeen.

When she was 16 years old, Katniss volunteered to take the place of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, in the 74th Hunger Games after Prim's name was called during the reaping. Originally, she had no intention of going into the Games, hoping she wouldn't be picked before the female tribute was chosen.

When The Hunger Games began, it was life or death, people killing each other, some running whilst some died or being killed by animals, Katniss was a skilled bow and arrow user, and yet somehow, her eyes landed on you, and it seemed she didn’t want to kill you yet even though she had her bow and arrow pointed at you.
