There was something living in the lake at the ministry
Sodo didn't know who, or what, it was; he just knew that it was there, lurking beneath the surface. He had first encountered it when he was a freshly summoned water ghoul who had all but sprinted down to the lake once he had heard about its existence. He had tore his clothes off and quickly as possible and jumped in, immediately in awe of the beauty that met him underwater. Even with his better vision, it was dark and murky down there, with shadows of plants and rocks looking in the distance. But it was perfect.
He had been swimming around and admiring the rocks on the bottom when he had felt something wrap around his ankle, not quite a hand, but not quite a tentacle, and he had let out an embarrassingly high pitched help and swam to the surface as quick as possible.
The second time, he had been in the den and Rain had come running in, dripping wet and nervous. He quickly explained to a panicked Mountain that he had seen something's glowing eyes beneath the surface of the lake. The third time, all the ghouls had been at the lake enjoying themselves, when Cirrus screamed and all but fell out of her floaty in an attempt to get away from whatever had touched her ankle.
Now, Sodo stood on the edge of the dark that jutted into the lake, his eyes narrowed as he watched a shadow move beneath the surface.
"I know you're in there." He said, ignoring how crazy he probably looked to anyone who passed by. "I can't go in there with you anymore, but I know you're there." A moment passed where nothing happened, and Sodo wondered if he really was crazy. But then something rose out of the water, something with those eyes that Rain had described; and they were staring right up at Sodo.
